- Name the products rather than relying on general trading as a label.
- Check product approvals, storage and customs separately.
- Compare initial and renewal costs for the same operating plan.
Which products are you planning to sell?
Start with a short product catalogue. Include the goods, supplier countries and intended customers. A business selling office accessories has a different approvals checklist from one selling food, cosmetics or specialist equipment.
Ask the licensing authority to confirm whether general trading or a more specific trading activity fits that catalogue. Get exclusions explained before committing to a package. A broad-sounding activity name is not a substitute for checking the products themselves.
Follow the goods through the business
Map where products enter the country, who imports them, where they are stored and who receives them. If you trade through a free zone, explain any movement into the mainland market. Discuss the route with the authority and customs adviser using the real transaction flow.
Our Dubai Customs registration guide covers the separate business code stage. The official customs service should be checked for the appropriate registration type and current document requirements.
What belongs in a complete quote?
| Part of the plan | Question to ask |
|---|---|
| Licence | Which goods and activities are included? |
| Premises | Does the business need storage, a showroom or an office? |
| Products | Which registrations or approvals apply? |
| Operations | Who handles customs, deliveries and returns? |
Also request the renewal charges and any visa or immigration costs. Compare quotes using the same product and facilities assumptions. Otherwise, a cheaper total may simply leave out something the company needs.
Check the first order before scaling it
Run one proposed shipment through the paperwork on your desk. Match the supplier invoice, goods description, importer and customer delivery. Identify the person responsible for each permission and document. This exercise can reveal a missing approval before stock is in transit.
For banking, prepare a clear explanation of supplier and customer locations, expected payments and the goods traded. Each bank applies its own onboarding checks.
Kompani Setup can compare formation options around that trading plan and explain the quoted support. Bring the product list and logistics arrangement so the conversation moves beyond an advertised licence price.
