- Check the applicable deadline as soon as incorporation is complete.
- Registration, filing and payment are separate obligations.
- Use the company’s official documents and authorised signatory details.
When should a new company start the registration check?
As soon as the incorporation documents are available. Record the incorporation date, legal form and relevant tax deadline in the company calendar. Avoid using the date of your first invoice as the assumed starting point.
The FTA’s registration timeframe guidance explains the three-month rule for newly incorporated resident juridical persons. Natural persons, overseas entities and other cases can have different rules, so check the category before using that deadline.
What information should you prepare?
Use the FTA’s current checklist for your circumstances. It includes company registration and licence documents, relevant owner and signatory identification, and evidence that the signatory is authorised. Have a person responsible for the application and a secure place to store the final registration details.
- Check the legal name against the incorporation documents.
- Confirm the ownership and authorised signatory information.
- Keep the correct financial-period details available.
- Review the submission and save the acknowledgement.
What if the company has no revenue yet?
Check the registration obligation anyway. “We have not traded” and “we expect no tax bill” answer different questions from whether the company must register. Keep the records that explain the startup period, including expenses and any funding received.
A dormant-looking company can still need ongoing attention. Ask an accountant what returns and records apply rather than leaving the file untouched until the business becomes profitable.
What should happen after registration?
Save the corporate tax registration number, confirm the tax period and calendar the relevant filing date. Review bookkeeping and any elections separately. Small Business Relief, if available, is not the same thing as avoiding registration.
Where should you check the current process?
Use the FTA corporate tax registration service for the live document list and EmaraTax steps. If a deadline has already been missed, check the current correction and penalty provisions with a qualified adviser. Do not assume an old waiver announcement automatically covers your case.
